Could your squishy-faced pup be the star of a new Vancouver fundraising book?

Registration is open to be part of the 'Squishy Face Squad' - a fundraising project raising money for 3 local rescue organisations.

Do you have a squishy-faced pup that deserves to be celebrated in print? An adorable fundraising book project launched by a dog-loving Vancouver photographer is celebrating the squishy-faced pets of Greater Vancouver to raise money for 3 local rescue organizations, and your pup could star in the book. Registration is now open to be a part of The 'Squishy Face Squad', a limited edition coffee table book by local photographer Katherine Gonzalez from Vancouver Pet Photography, inspired by her two beloved pugs Pheobe and Bubbles. "They are my world and the amount of love and happiness they bring into my life is difficult to put into words. I have always been obsessed with the way they look, and people love them too - those squishy faces never go unnoticed!", says Gonzalez. "I love every single wrinkle, I love those adorable flat profiles and their goofy personality. That special bond that we share inspired me to connect with other squishy-faced pet parents and share the stories of their beloved pets while raising funds for animals in need." Filled with beautiful, colourful photography and touching stories that will put a smile on the face of any animal lover, the book raises funds and awareness for rescue dogs and cats, with 50% of the registration fee donated directly to About a Dog Rescue Society, Aide for Paws & Rescue Society and Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA).

From Pug doggies to Bulldogs, Scottish Fold cats to Exotic Shorthairs, and all wrinkled and flat faces in between, if your pet has a squishy face, you can register today for a chance to feature in the book which will be released in time for Christmas 2021.

The limited edition fundraising book will be published in November 2021 | Vancouver Pet Photography

How to get involved

Successful applicants will pay a $99 registration fee which will include a personalized professional photography session with Vancouver Pet Photography and a double page spread in the Squishy Face Squad book featuring their pup's story and photos.

Photo shoot locations will be around Vancouver and surrounding areas including iconic locations such as Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Spanish Banks and with only limited spots available, they are expected to fill up fast.

"I'm encouraging people who register to have a funny or interesting story about their pet that can be used for the book as well to make it even more personal," explains the talented local photographer behind the project. "People will also have the chance to get beautiful artwork after the session so special packages are created just for this project. My printed products come from a professional print lab in Italy and all the pieces are not only gorgeous but they're also museum-grade quality." A discounted rate will be offered at pre-sale of the Squishy Face Squad book when announced later this year, and as a thank you for participating in the project, dog owners will receive artwork credit to spend on wall art collections and albums purchases, so they can proudly display the adorable results of their shoot.

Helping animals in need

As the chosen rescue organizations rely solely on donations, the money raised by this project will help fund the supplies, equipment, veterinary and operational costs required to ensure the animals in their care are warm, safe and healthy. "Giving back to animals in need means so much to me," Gonzalez tells OhMyDog!. "I often volunteer with charities and rescue organizations to help them raise funds, but this time I wanted to do something bigger. I thought this project would be a great way to bring people together and create a beautiful book to celebrate the love of animals and bring awareness to such an important cause and help improve the lives of dogs and cats."

Registrations will close at 7pm on Friday April 30th, or once all the spots are filled. For more information or for details on how register your squishy-faced beauty today, click here.
