Celebrate National Dog Mom Day With An At-Home Spa Day For You And Your Pup

Updated: Nov 13, 2023

Calling all dog moms! Here's how to spoil yourself and your pup this weekend with a spa day at home.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, but there is another holiday coming up that some of you might not be aware of, that you definitely won’t want to miss. Saturday, May 9, 2020, is National Dog Mom Day, and what better way to celebrate than having a spa day for you and your pup from the comfort, and safety, of your own home?

Having a spa day at home for you and your pup is a great way to spend some quality time together while also celebrating the work, love and commitment that you have given to your furry friend.

Since a lot of our local groomers are closed at the moment, this is an especially good time for this holiday activity as your dog might looking a little scruffier than usual, and be due for a spring clean!

On top of that, we have all had to make adjustments to our lifestyle and many of us aren’t taking the time to treat ourselves right now, so what better way to do just that than to kick back and have a self-care day for you and your furry best friend.

Grooming and bath time can be a bit of an uneasy experience for your dog, but if you take the right approach, it can be a really enjoyable bonding experience.

So, to ensure you celebrate National Dog Mom Day this weekend, here are a few tips and tricks on how to make this spa day at home with your dog a success, with the help from a few grooming products (for people and dogs)!

  1. Make sure that you take your dog out for a long walk so they can burn some energy and be in a relaxed mood for the grooming experience.

  2. Once you’ve let them burn off some energy, make sure the bathroom is dog friendly with enough towels laid down, and all the products and accessories ready to go.

  3. Help your dog get into a relaxed state of mind and give them a gentle massage of the head and shoulders. This should help allow them to approach the grooming session with relaxed and comfortable energy.

  4. Bring some treats into the bathroom to reward them for calm, cooperative behaviour. Some CBD treats from Petals and Tails will be the perfect treat for this. This treat formula includes a wonderful combination of CBD, Passion Flower, Valerian Root and Ginger Root, and has great reviews from other dog parents.

  5. Run a warm, shallow bath for your pup and gently coax them into the tub. Try out a shampoo from Vancouver’s very own Black Sheep Organics. They make a natural shampoo that's incredibly gentle and will have your dog smelling delicious! Made from the highest quality natural and organic ingredients, they're biodegradable, vegan, gluten-free and certified cruelty free. To top it off, use some of Beau Essentials Shiny Coat Formula Conditioner to give your pup the softest coat you’ve ever felt.

  6. Once you have given your dog a nice, sudsy scrub down, guide him out of the bathtub and use a towel to dry them off. Try using Fou Fou’s Groomie - a multi-purpose silicone brush to remove any excess hair dirt or dander. You can also use this brush wet with the shampoo for a deeper clean!

  7. When your pup is all dried off, add the finishing touches to your newly spruced up pooch with the Fou-stick Protect - a moisturizing paw balm that protects your dog from injured or cracked paws.

  8. Lastly, try out Spritzers Body Spray from Fou Fou Brands, a deodorizing spray that helps moisturize the skin and coat.

So, now that you’ve got your companion all fresh and clean, it’s time to treat yourself for being an amazing dog mom with your own self-care time!

Run a nice, bath for yourself and try out some Fresh Freesia Bath Salts from Scentuals. After you’re all relaxed and clean, try out the Radiant Bath and Body Oil from Province Apothecary. This alluring body oil absorbs quickly to soften, nourish and revitalize all skin types, so you’ll be feeling, and smelling, amazing - just like your pup.

Now that both you and your pup are squeaky clean, feeling relaxed, loved and beautiful, all that’s left to do is to give your dog a big cuddle, and enjoy the rest of National Dog Mom Day together - you deserve it!
