7 Fun Things to Do with Your Dog in Vancouver in 2020

It’s a new year so let’s make sure we make it the best one yet by having as much fun with our fur-babies as possible!

Luckily, we live in a city of dog lovers so there’s always lots of fun things we can do with our pups and this is the year we’re all going to make the most of it.

If you’ve made New Year’s resolutions with your dog (check out our list if you still need ideas) we want to help make sure you keep every one of them!

Whether you promised you’d set up doggie play dates, go on more adventures with your pup or attend local dog-friendly events, Vancouver is the perfect place to do it.

We’ve picked 7 fun things you can do with your dog in Vancouver in 2020 (including some of our own events that we think you're going to love!) so keep reading and get your diaries out!

1. Canine Coffee Crawl in Kits

If you want to attend more dog-friendly local events this year, get this one in your diary asap! Brought to you by Vancouver Coffee Snob, PawSwap App, and Siply App, the Canine Coffee Crawl is a guided tour of the best coffee shops in Kitsilano happening on March 15, 2020.

You can enjoy delicious coffee and fantastic offers, all with your fur-baby by your side! This is a great opportunity to meet other dog owners in the area and we can’t wait to meet lots of you there!

2. Poses & Pups at RYU - West 4th

Dogs + Yoga = The perfect workout combo!

If your resolution for 2020 was to get fit and practise some self-care, what better way to do it than with your pup by your side? Literally.

Happening on January 26th and February 23rd at RYU - West 4th, our very own Poses and Pups event includes yoga with your dog, led by Emily Lee, a canine cool down, mingling, snacks and sips – the perfect Sunday morning!

3. Pet Lover Show at Tradex

The Pet Lover Show is an annual event for dog owners and is a fun day for the whole family. No matter what age you are, if you love pets, you’ll love the Pet Lover Show.

Once again, PawSwap will be there this year so bring your friends, and dogs, and join us in Abbotsford for a fun-filled day of activities, food, vendors, products, and LOTS AND LOTS of fur-babies!

Bringing together animal lovers from the Vancouver area and the lower mainland, this is Western Canada’s largest pet-focused event and is happening on February 15 and February 16, 2020.

We know our readers love the Pet Show so we’ve got a special package deal, especially for you guys!

By purchasing a ticket through us, you'll get special discounts, your name will be included in a draw, AND you'll receive a $10 voucher towards any purchase with us.

4. Take a hike with your dog

This is something every Vancouver dog owner should do in 2020! We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world and who better to experience the great outdoors with than your four-legged bestie! Make a list of hikes you want to complete (there’s so many to choose from!) and make time to actually complete them – then enjoy ticking them off one by one throughout the year!

Here’s a few of our favourites to get you started!

  • Quarry Rock

  • Bowen Lookout (on-leash)

  • Capilano Pacific Trail

  • Dog Mountain (on-leash)

5.  Beach Days with your Dog

If hiking isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy some lovely, relaxing walks with your dog by taking advantage of the 8 off-leash dog-friendly beaches.

That’s right, there’s 8 of them! If you and your pup haven’t visited all 8 before, make sure you do in 2020!

Here’s a few of our favourites to kick off your list!

  • Spanish Banks

  • Hadden Park (Kits Dog Beach)

  • Ambleside Dog Beach

  • Sunset Beach Park

6. PADS For the Love of Dog Gala

Seriously, can it get much cuter than having your very own 'puppy host' at a dinner party?

If the pictures from previous years are anything to go by, the answer is no, no it can't.

If you can get a group of 10 dog-loving friends who all want to attend this glamorous event, you could be treated to your very own 'PADS Puppy Host' at your dinner table.

Even better, it's for an amazing cause!

Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS) breeds, raises and trains fully certified assistance dogs and last year's Gala raised over $85,000 to support PADS programs.

Grab your tickets here for the event on March 14, 2020:

7. B.Y.O.D Vancouver

Rumour has it that a new dog-friendly event is coming to Vancouver in June!

We can’t give too much away yet but we can tell you it’s an event you are NOT going to want to miss!

Keep an eye on our Instagram and O.M.D next month for more details...
