7 dog-friendly Vancouver beaches you can enjoy this summer

Ready for some sun? Here are 7 of the best dog-friendly Vancouver beaches to safely enjoy this summer.

With the official start of summer just around the corner, Vancouverites are getting excited for those long overdue sunny days. And where better to soak up the beautiful Vancouver sun than at the beach?

Everybody loves a beach day, including our pups, so it’s lucky that Vancouver has so many amazing dog-friendly beaches for us to enjoy with our four-legged bffs.

1. Kits Dog Beach/Hadden Park

Right in the centre of Kitsilano, this is one of the most well-known (and popular) dog beaches in the city - for a good reason! Great views, lots of space, and a chilled out atmosphere makes this beach a great place to kick back with your pup on a sunny day.

2. Spanish Banks Beach

This off-leash dog area is located on the farthest west corner of the sprawling Spanish Banks Beach and Park. There’s a large field and a number of beachfront areas for you to relax with your pup, and it’s also connected to some beautiful trails in Pacific Spirit Park if you fancy a stroll. In case your pup starts to overheat, it’s best to be prepared by bringing along a Ruffwears Cooling Vest, provided by HomesAlive.

3. Sunset Beach Park (West End)

A smaller beach/park in the Downtown West End, the name says it all. There are amazing sunset views in the evening, and you can enjoy the boats drifting in and out of False Creek. The park is usually occupied with well-mannered pups and nice people to enjoy the sun and water with. See competition details below to see how you can win a Beach Prize pack from Swimco, which includes a beach ball, 2 Simco S’well bottles, 2 beach bottles, and a tote bag - perfect beach day accessories.

4. Crab Park/Portside Park

This is more of a hidden gem located just outside of Gastown. There is a large grassy area if your pup needs to get some running out of their system. Across the seawall, the beach is also permitted for off-leash dogs. This park also has some great views of Downtown Vancouver! Bring some supplies for you and your pup in this stylish and practical Dogyard Monogram Backpack from Paws Circle.

5. New Brighton Park

This Park is located in the Hasting-Sunrise area, on the west-side of the Second Narrows Bridge. With a sprawling field for your pup to run and play, there is also beach access to the Burrard Inlet. Make sure to pack some shades in your doggy backpack if you're out there for a while. Keep your eyes protected and happy with some stylish sunglasses from Clearly.

6. Devonian Harbour Park

This is another lesser-known beach, but a great location for you to enjoy the sun and the water with your furry best friend. This little beach is located north of Denman and West Georgia, with grassy areas and a rocky beach to go dip your toes in. It’s always handy to bring some treats along to the park to encourage your dog’s good behaviour. Grab some treats from Crumps Naturals before you head out the door.

7. Ambleside Park

Another iconic beach location for Vancouverites and their dogs. With over 8.5 acres of grassy lawns, beach access and trails, this is one of the ultimate spots for a day at the beach with your pup. There are amazing views of the Lions Gate Bridge and Stanley Park, and dogs of all types for your pup to socialize with.

Once you’ve made it back home from a long day with your furry best friend, try out some Aloe Vera Coconut Body Lotion from the Green Beaver to help keep your skin healthy and glowing.
