10 Indoor Activities You Can Enjoy With Your Dog While Social Distancing

You don't need to go outside to have fun with your pup, so here are 10 dog friendly indoor activities to keep you both entertained while we're all staying indoors.

We’re spending a lot more time at home right now to help keep our communities safe, and it’s tough to think of creative ways to entertain yourself, and your pups.

Obviously, they are still very excited about having us around all the time, but as fellow dog parents, we get that it’s not easy to keep them occupied all day, every day.

But, we also know we should be making the most of getting to spend so much time with our furry best friends.

That’s why we’ve come up with 10 dog friendly indoor activities that you and your furry bffs can enjoy together to get you through the next few weeks.

1. Start Your Day With Play

Getting your heart rate up is a great way to start you and your dog's day - so give your dog some morning playtime with a game of tug-of-war or an indoor ball chase.

If you need a little help waking up in the morning, you can crack open a tetra of Special Edition - Classic Black Cold Brew Coffee from Station Cold Brew to get your day off to a great, and tasty, start.

2. Teach Your Dog A New Trick

Now is the perfect time to teach your dog some new tricks! If you don’t have these down already, here is a good place to start:

  • Sit and Stay - A classic command. If this is executed properly it can be useful in many situations

  • Leave It - Good for playtime and when they’ve got a hold of something dangerous or not for them

  • Settle - This is very beneficial for an over-active, excitable or anxious pup who needs some direction from time to time

  • Come - Basic recall is important in order to feel comfortable letting your dog off-leash tp get the exercise they need.

Obviously, you need to reward your pup when they learn something new. We love these delicious, healthy and all Canadian Crumps Naturals Treats to reward your dog.

You've been a great teacher. Way to go! You deserve a treat too, so reward yourself with some of your very own healthy treats from Nomz Energy Bites.

3. Enjoy a Dog Yoga Class

Keep you mind and body active and work out alongside your pup. It might not be the first thing to spring to mind when you think of dog friendly activities to do indoors, but it's a great way to exercise, and bond, with each other.

There are lots of dog yoga videos available online that you can follow along with - we love this one.

While you're dropping into your breath and body, stay energized with Welltold’s Energy Supplements. Their vegan Health Boosters (for humans!) include a natural and organic adaptogen that increases physical energy and supports mental focus.

4. Stay Connected Virtually

We're all in this together so it's a great time to build your network of dog owners by joining our Facebook group, Vancouver PawSwapppers.

Get in touch with other dog owners in your community to share tips and tricks, ask questions, share cute pics or anything else doggy related! Inspire each other by posting your favourite dog friendly indoor activities!

5. Practice Some Self Care

Create a spa day for you and your furry bestie from the comfort of your own home. You can give your dog that long over-due bath, getting them all fresh and clean for summer.

As for yourself; relax, re-hydrate and detoxify your skin with the Glacial Oceanic Clay Face Mask from Nena Skin Care.

6. Take a Virtual Dog Photography Class

Everybody wants that perfect shot of their pup to treasure forever, and let's be honest, to show off how cute your dog is on social media.

Well, you now can learn how to become a professional dog photographer from your very own home in this new virtual experience - Become a Pawparazzi expert by Vancouver Pet Photography.

The event takes place on April 9, 2020, and is hosted by GetSocialBox - a brand new platform designed by Vancouver entrepreneurs, providing a variety of online experiences for you to enjoy.

So if you've always wanted to brush up on your photography skills, now is the perfect time.

7. Plan a Treat Scavenger Hunt

With Easter around the corner, create a fun scavenger hunt for your pup around the house by hiding their favourites treats in different rooms.

You can find an area in your home and hide a few treats for your dog to 'search and sniff' and it's one of the easiest and most fun dog friendly activities to do indoors.

Depending on how long you want your dog to be occupied depends on how difficult your hiding spots are!

This is also great fun for you as you get to watch how excited they are as they run around locating the hidden treats.

8. Make Smoothies For You and Your Pup

Who doesn't love a smoothie? They are a fresh, tasty treat and we found some recipes that are not only delicious for you, but are safe for you dog to drink as well.

Put some peanut butter in the toy and while you’re at it, sneak in a dog supplement from PureForm Pet Health Supplements to keep your pup happy and healthy.
