Tired of ‘No Dogs Allowed’ signs, PawSwap plans, promotes, and inspires dog-friendly activities, while raising awareness of businesses that are more inclusive of our four-legged best friends.

Our hyper-local focused publication OhMyDog! by PawSwap is fast becoming the ultimate resource for Vancouver dog owners, and we’re looking for a Content Writer to join the team.

About the role

We’re looking for a talented self starter with a passion for writing and a love for dogs, to be a key part in the ongoing growth of OhMyDog! by PawSwap.

In less than a year, our audience has grown more than tenfold, and we’re looking for a creative team player who can continue this accelerated growth by writing unique, compelling content for our audience of local dog owners, and dog lovers.

The Content Writer’s main duties will include working closely with the Communications Editor to deliver local dog-related news, and articles covering every topic that matters to dog owners - from advice on dog adoption for first-time owners to training tips, dog-friendly locations and activities, helpful information from local vets, and more.

Although previous experience writing for an online publication is preferred, this is a unique opportunity for any content writers passionate about their craft that are ready to build their portfolio, gain experience in a fast-paced environment and expand their skill set.



  • Write 1-2 compelling news style articles or similar per week to be published on OhMyDog! 

  • Ensure articles written follow company guidelines and adhere to PawSwap’s style and tone

  • Keep up-to-date with dog news and events happening around Vancouver

  • Complete articles assigned to you by the Communications Editor in a timely manner, ensuring you can meet tight deadlines to keep to OMD’s editorial calendar

  • Source relevant photos for your articles as needed

  • Pitch and source unique story ideas and conduct the research required to produce high quality content, which may include conducting interviews and sourcing supporting arguments.

  • Work closely with the editorial team to brainstorm story ideas and contribute to OMD’s content strategy

  • Collaborate with and support the Communications Editor on all projects

  • Complete other tasks assigned by the Communications Editor, which may include writing copy for marketing materials, web copy and email campaigns

  • Opportunity to write guest blogs for other publications and online blogs with similar audiences

  • Brainstorm and collaborate on additional ways to achieve the company goals and grow our audience

  • Manage the OMD weekly email newsletter, ensuring it is sent to our database every Friday

  • Attend editorial meetings with the Communications Editor, currently remote due to COVID-19, but may be required to attend in-person meetings in our Downtown Vancouver office in the future.



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A minimum of 1 year experience writing for a publication preferred

  • Degree or diploma in English, Journalism, Communications, or a relevant field

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent research skills

  • A proven track record of meeting tight deadlines and being self-motivated

  • A portfolio of writing samples showing an ability to adapt your writing style for different audiences

  • Experience in creating well-rounded, factual articles with multiple sources 

  • Creativity and an ability to think outside the box when pitching stories, combined with the communication skills and dedication needed to secure sources and original angles for your stories


Nice to have skills

  • Knowledge of dogs, and a familiarity with our app

  • Experience in writing website copy

  • Familiar with email marketing 

  • Basic knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics
